Hi all, The Girling 5156 servo on my SIV has failed (see earlier post)and I cannot dismantle it to fit a DIY repair kit as the tank joint is 'crimped'togther.I have obtained a price of £240 + VAT for reconditioning it but can obtain a genuine Lockheed servo installation kit for £120 +VAT. My question is has anyone fitted a Lockheed servo in the space occupied by the Girling servo,or maybe someone knows of an alterantive? Regards John
Hi John. I installed a dervo on my ser 3 , I can't see what the make is, but I know Ford and Volvo servos work too and I think mine is off a Volvo. I am not sure about the fastbacks. but I had removed the heater motor and stuff so I had enough space on the right wheel arch above the hooter. One hyd. pipe from the reservoir to the side of the servo cylinder in front, one from the centre of the servo cylinder at the back to the y-piece where the brake switch is and the vacuum connection to the inlet manifold.Sorry I can't be more specific about the fastback but I am sure somebody will know exactly. Cheers Jan
I don't know enough about Series cars to know for certain, but I would expect it to work if space can be found. It's just a matter of connecting brake lines and vacuum pipe.
Thanks for the input guys, I've had a look on the Alpine club site and there are comments on replacing Girling servos with Lockheed and the overall opinion is that the Lockheed types advertised on e bay for 80odd pounds are to be avoided. The one I've sourced from JL Spares of Rochdale is a genuine Lockheed for £120+VAT they have confirmed is should be a straight swop with little or no mods required.
