Yikes
I am loving the engine Jason......I would consider swapping it for the greasy festering lump of metal that is under my bonnet if you like

Time for another update although despite plenty of further work being done not as much progress as I would have liked.
Anyway, engine bay is almost ready for painting. As you can see I've now treated all the rust patches with jenolite and zinc primer, getting in behind the battery tray was a challenge!
I had to sort out a small hole in the joint between the inner wing and bulkhead which was OK. Worse was the associated rot in the inner wheelarch/bulkhead area. The problem ran vertically down the entire seam so again it was out with the wire brush, jenolite and zinc primer;
Same area after some jenolite has done its work - bloody good stuff!
Then zinc primed;
Hole has now been covered with some fibreglass cloth and aerospace two part adhesive which sets rock hard. I've obviously checked the NS for the same problem but aside from a couple small areas it is OK.
I also made the decision to remove the bonnet hinges in order to clean and paint their recesses - what a mistake - a nightmare to get them out!
That's about it for now.

OK, so I've been spending the last week finishing off the prep and doing some filling to cover in some minor imperfections. Also uncovered a grotty bit when I removed some old sealant so that was made good with a bit of jiggery pokery;
Today I had the afternoon to myself so decided to make a start on painting whilst the weather was still fairly good, managed to do quite well! Bay was already rubbed down so just needed scotching and degreasing;
Then I made a start with the primer, light dust coat initially then some further coats on all bare metal and repaired areas;
Was expecting to have to do some flatting back when the primer was dry but it looked good so I carried on with colour;
Had to sort out a couple of small runs but that was all, so on with the lacquer;
Photos don't really show very well but the colour and finish are flippin brilliant! I was a bit nervous about the lacquer coat after some previous disasters but the paint suppliers were right when they told me it was good stuff. Might decide on a second coat but I will look again in daylight when it has had a bit of time to settle.
So, very happy with the days work, hope you like it!!

This is a custom colour mix, originally it was cedar green metallic, code 140.

That looks really good Jason, we all know how paint jobs can go wrong but yours looks to have turned out great.
If it looks as good in the flesh as in the photos then i'd be tempted not to bother with that second coat of laquer in case it went wrong!
Looking forward to having you back on the show circuit in 2012.

Well all i can say Jason is don't hold your breath  ! Still at the dreaming stage i'm afraid.
I'm full of admiration for yours and Jon's restos - you'll both belong to a very exclusive "club" when they're back on the road.

I'll be the first to admit that this isn't exactly the most exciting picture but it marks the first step in getting everything back together.
Time to pull out all the bags of bits and try to remember where everything goes!
