I was going to use some k&n"s but thinking it would look better with the original housing
Re painted back to orange.

May I ask a question please.
How do you guys sort out the choke cable, it has to convert from pull action to push action, and I am sure you need the choke for cold starts - especially in your cold weather ? I can't recall seeing the choke setup in any photos. |

The choke on the webers is a pull action, the cable shroud is locked on to the carburetor housing then the cable clips to the choke mechanism. I don't ever use the choke though, maybe it is just mine but the car won't run on choke.

Choke cables removed on mine very early on - contrary to the handbook advice to use full choke on a cold start and even partial choke on a warm start, it never worked for me.
I think I had them set up pretty well and it would fire-up immediately with just a prod or two; or three depending on air temp. and although a bit fluffy for the first half mile was fine after that.
Also on previous topic of air boxes; as far I I recall those 34/35 40's are jetted to run with the air box, if you use K & N's they'd really need re-jetting. I also prefer sound of airbox 'snort' than hiss of K & N's, but purely personal of course

as long as the carbs are set up properly the car should fire up after a few priming pumps of the throttle
I am not going to bother with choke cables on mine
I would recommend anybody with troublesome carbs to visit a tuner with a rolling road

the guy who is doing my bootlid should be able to colour match the airbox
good effort on the welding mine is poor so I entrust it a workmate
who can weld wings onto angels.

You dont need a rolling road to sort a pair of webbers out it does help balancing is crutial but making sure all your ignition side of thing is right is the place to start.
The engine bay is looking nice

Engine bay now almost complete, just need to fit the radiator and add fluids. Wiring was completed on Saturday and ignition timing set (fingers crossed) so we may be able to turn the key soon!!

That is the amplifier for the electronic ignition. I have managed to route the cable through the car instead of having them trail across the engine bay which I am pleased about

out of interest I ask whether the Holbays all had six blade cooling fans ? I know they are scarce as hens teeth and expensive too, been looking for one myself for a long time, saw a few got gobbled up on ebay . |

Actually I think it is either a 4 blade fixed fan (metal) like mine or the 5 blade fan (plastic) that goes with the holset coupling.
