Well performance between the standard and H120 is fairly close but the differences extend beyond just the head. You are right though David, the H12o does sound good, the growl of those carbs!
I have met people with standard heads on a holbay engine complete with webers so it must be possible. I'll start a new post, I expect one of the more technically minded readers will soon put us straight!!

Hi, I have a bit to do under the bonnet myself but I was just going to mask the engine off with some plastic sheeting. Would a standard head be such a disaster? I know you would have to change the manifold etc. I suppose originality is important and although I think the H120 looks and sounds much better than a standard car but, is it that much faster really or is it what my Dad would have called “ all wind and p*ss” ( I have a feeling I have just lost a few friends!)

Don't worry David, I've always known the head would be an issue. I'm sure the spare one I've got will be ok, if not I've got several standard heads to choose from until such time I can afford/find another holbay.
And don't forget the engine and gearbox all need to come out so I can paint the bay.

Oh hells bells! I am genuinely sorry and disappointed to hear that, I assumed you were fitting a head gasket or something, I didn’t realise things were that bad or I wouldn’t have joked about it, you seemed to be going so well and I was hoping you would have it on the road soon. You know Kim Wilkinson so maybe he can help I don’t know precisely what but he has a truckload of spares, I suppose Coltec can help too but you can guarantee it wont be cheap , there’s always a problem eh?, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope the spare is OK

Thanks David, I really can't wait to have it all finished and see the end result.
The cylinder head is another thing on the 'to do' list. The original one is no good, I have to hope the spare one can be made good.

I hope it will all look good when it is back together and don't worry, I've got plenty of wet and dry paper for getting the engine bay looking good!

You better spend an hour or two extra, sanding the engine bay and cleaning, the difference will be outstanding!

Thought it was about time I updated the post, here's a few items sporting a nice new coat of hammerite;
And the re-assembled strut complete with new gaiter;
I am also going to have a go at spraying the engine bay myself after being shocked by a quote from a bodyshop 
Here's what it looks like at present, hopefully we can make it look much nicer!!

Well i've been trying to get something sorted over the last few days that I am quite excited about!
The car isn't finished, nothing that amazing but this little mod is going to be good if I can pull it off.
Will hopefully have another update next week but just thought I'd keep you guys guessing

I see what you mean, should be an easy job for a trimmer, i'd be tempted to have a go myself, getting new beading may be tricky though?
There are instructions in the forum help section about putting pictures in posts. Similarly if you want a picture in your signature just copy the IMG code into it and hey presto!

ps the black stuff init is just an attemp to stick the piping back to itself - dont think it worked really, ha
also ive forgotten how to put photos straight on here and how do u attach a photo to your user
