Thanks for the update Jim: I've only stripped down a Fastback slave and the spring is so weak it seems hardly worth having inside it; so I guess it is all down to the fluid pressure that makes it work properly. Interesting use of the endoscope there Trouble is that even when new there's not a lot of depth to the carbon ring, so may be difficult to judge how much wear has occurred? I take it the general operation of it now still feels like something is amiss? i.e. not precise & a bit 'wooley' in operation - excuse the technical term there Anyway; keep us posted on this thread as to how it goes. Cheers, G |

Thanks Glen. The clutch feels fine in operation, I've got a little "judder" when slipping the clutch, but that is probably just the plate or cover. As you say the spring is very weak in the cylinder, but it slightly applies pressure to the release bearing and I would have thought adds to the wear. However these cars have survived many miles, so should be acceptable. My main concern is that the gearbox is remarkably heavy, and b...dy hard work when lay on your back underneath, so not very keen on repeating that operation. And this is supposed to be my hobby in retirement!
