Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what this electrical part is in the engine bay was for as it has no wires going to it, I didn't have one on my earlier Fastback, I wondered if it was for the original alternator?

Thanks in advance

Yes, a 4TR, rectifier or regulator pack for when the early cars had a 16AC Alternator fitted. Later cars with the 16ACR Alternator did indeed have the regulator 'built in'. Most cars would be running 16ACR's now and so these are largely redundant.
I think some purists like to keep originality, so you can still get them, but taking them out of the circuit is easy, so I personally would not bother with them. Cheers. G.

I think these were only fitted to the very early cars, perhaps if yours is a later car someone has retro fitted it to get over an issue. I think Mark Reader and Martin Bowden have them on their early cars, might be worth asking them or simply converting back to the later type that Andy B mentioned with the internal regulator.

I think it may be an external regulator pack for the alternator
Later alternators don't use them as they are "built in"

sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand
