recieved from pegasaus racing. It's full of things that I think sunbeam
people could use. They have jets for the Weber 32/36 DGV carb., they also
have master cylinders from Girling and Lockheed that look almost exactly
like our sunbeam ones, only

Delta Cam's phone # : 206-383-4152 or 206-572-2769(fax) They have numerous
1592 and 1725 grinds available. Cost was about $40-45 plus freight with two
day turnaround.

Rick, I agree about the fuel tanks on the later alpines and tigers being
unsafe. I have also thought about replacing mine with a fuel cell. I just
recieved a catolog from PEGASUS AUTO RACING SUPPLIES

Fellow Alpine Owners,

Just subscribed to the Alpines mailing list, looks great, glad to be able
to talk to other owners.
I thought I'd let you know a little about myself. I'm an original owner of
a 1967 Alpine V which I bought for $2,460 in September 1967. Our Alpine is
black on black and now has about 64,500 on the odometer.
Over the years I've owned 16 Alpines and Tigers and currently have my
original Alpine and a 1966 Tiger Ia which is red with balck interior.
In 1976 I started "Classic Sunbeam Auto Parts" as a response to the lack of
parts on the market. As many parts went unavaialble, we started a parts
reproduction program that as of today produced over 50 parts. In the
begining it was rubber trim and some chrome items and our most recent items
included the front amber and clear lenses, the rear upper lenses in amber
and red and the rear lower lense for the Alpine IV,V and Tigers. Our parts
are supplied world wide to both owners as well as other Sunbeam parts
suppliers. As a Alpine/Tiger owner myself, I make an effort to make all of
our repoductions to the highest standard of quality.

Priority: normal

Yesterday I successfully tracked down North America's most talented
and infamous manufacturer of Sunbeam repair panels, Mr. Rob Martel of
Rob Martel Enterprises, Alliston, Ontario. Don't know who this guy
is? Check out his catalog in the suppliers section of the Tiger web site.

It seems Rob has gotten a bit burned out on making panels and has
decided to take a sabbatical for a few months. Hence, he has had his
shop phone turned off. (He said he was being interrupted continually
and couldn't get any work done.)

For those of you who have gotten to the point in their restorations
where they need top quality panels from Rob, it is possible to get
them. You have two choices:

1. Contact Rob by mail at his shop address: 9-171 Dufferin St. S.,
Alliston, ON L9R 1E7, CANADA. All inquiries will be promptly
answered. He has a large quantity of rockers and other popular panels
that should last through his sabbatical.

2. Purchase panels from Doug Jennings at Tiger Auto in Dayton, OH
(phone 513-252-3317). He has stockpiled a small quantity of panels
on Rob's behalf and is selling them for exactly what Rob sells them
for.

Sorry my spare steering wheel is already spoken for. However if its any
help I restored my steering wheel hub by filling the cracks with
fibreglass filler, sanding it smooth and then repainting it.Looks as
good as new. If its really beyond repair I suggest you contact the
Rapier Owners Club as the steering wheel is the same in Series 3-5
Rapiers and a lot more of those get wrecked than Alpines. Karl

Terry - the Alpine Sean Connnery drove in Dr. No was a Series II. As for the
fake white walls, I have a set on my Series 3 and they look GREAT!. They were
purchased from Coker Tire, and are still available for $26.95 for all four.
They add a two inch whitewall to the tire. They are not glued on, they just fit
REALLY SNUG. Your tire mounter has to be careful getting them and the tire onto
a wire wheel properly, but once fit, I have had no problem with them. Because
of their snug fit you cannot tell they're fakes until you walk up and try to get
your fingernail underneath. You can reach Coker at 1-800-251-6336 or for

Specialty Custom Chrome Fasters, Inc. They sell chrome plated and stainless
fasteners in both metric and inch and no minimum order. Free shipping on

even chrome muffler clamps. I haven't done any business with them, sounds

Unfortunately this only solves part of the problem. There are still a large
number of longer/larger bolts that must be replaced and I have no desire to
order a box of 100 of one particular size. Does anyone know of an
inexpensive
mail-order place to by stainless fasteners? I am willling to place a large
order
but it would be a lot of different sizes.

Subject: Overdrives and Unitrax

Hello Scott And Everyone:
I called Unitrax today at (714)630-4327 and spoke to Norm, I believe,
their manager. The good news: They do make overdrives. The bad news:
They won't fit Alpines. He seemed knowledgable and said the unit they
make fits in the driveline between the transmission and the
differential. Unfortunately, it's too long for the distance involved in
an Alpine. They do not have what we'd call a conversion kit for standard
transmissions to be changed to OD. Too bad.

If I understood clearly, they do supply replacement gears and parts for
Laylock overdrives so those of you lucky enough to already have ODs may
save some money having a ready source for parts.

I was driving home last night when I saw a beautiful Series 2 off to the side
of the road. I stopped to talk to the guy and see if he needed help. He was
on his way home to Lisbon, OH from MONTANA in ther Series 2! Said he had lost
the generator a couple of days ago, but other than that everything was running
fine.

He also said he has parted out over 20 Alpines and has many, many parts at his
house. He is not on the internet, but did give me his card with phone number,
etc. I asked him if I could post it to this group and he said sure. Of course
I know nothing about this guy, but he did seem to be quite knowledgeable about
Alpines.

Sometime ago we were talking about one-man brake bleeders. I recently
purchased a set of Russell Performance Speed Bleeder Screws. I've just
installed them and tried them out. They work excellent! All you need to do
is to open them a quarter turn and pump the brakes. They have a spring loaded
check valve that doesn't allow air back in. Easy one-man bleeder. If you

Patrick,
Regarding determining voltage polarity on a Smith's clock, I am not certain
that it matters! When voltage is applied to the clock, it energizes a coil
(electromagnet) that causes the associated mechanism to move or swing thru its
travel, pushing against a spring. Near the end of its travel a set of
contacts are opened, and this disconnects the coil, which turns off the
electromagnet, and allows spring to return the mechanism to (actually past)
its starting point, and in this process the contacts are closed, the coil is
energized, and the cycle repeats. I have tested Smith's clocks in the past
using a 9 volt transistor radio battery: I use a small battery like that,
because it cannot supply a great deal of current. Do remember, Smith's clocks
must be started. The pull button on the front moves the mechanism back to the
point I mentioned earlier where the coil is energized.
I met a gentleman at the Western Washington All British Field Meet several
years ago, Stephen Golde. He rebuilds Smith's clocks and gives a lifetime
warrantee on his work! I have his business card from our meeting and he can

a toll free number and you should be able to get all of your questions answered.
This is an agreed value policy, with one liability charge per collection ( NOT
per car!). There is also no deductible, I told someone yesterday that there was
one, I was wrong. Rates are .60 per thousand, plus the liability charge for the
first car. To give you all an idea, I had no problem getting 25,000 on my Series
'A' Harrington. I am paying 160.00 per year with no driving restrictions. Adding
a second car won't cost much extra, so it makes it affordable for greedy guys
like me who can't just own one. I encourage everyone to check them out!

I am not certain what colors you are indicating in you 'message'
(spelled correctly this time). We offer several types of wire which can
be used in automotive applications. The most common type of insulation
is PVC, and it can be made in many different insulation sizes. I am
attaching two WORD documents which will give the most likely wire types
possibilities (at this time we do not have a published catalog).
The minimum quantity for striped wire is 100' per stripe. We do not
keep pre-striped wire in stock, but we can add the stripe to the wire
within 3 to 4 days of an order.

Despite the boring-sounding name, Paste Polishing No. 5, is known to
connoisseurs as the ideal material for cleaning bakelite and other
plastics (even plastic baths!). Unlike Brasso and other liquid polishes,
it leaves no active residue, and as it also contains a waxy agent, it also
gives a gloss finish. Paste Polishing No. 5 is the stuff the Post Office
used to polish up their old bakelite phones and is marvellous stuff - ask
any user! Unfortunately the demand for it is reduced nowadays (BT doesn't
need it now!), so it is only manufactured at intervals. You can buy it in
small quantities under the name Baykobrite from The Radiophile,
'Larkhill', Newport Road, Woodseaves, Stafford, ST20 0NP at UKP1.95 a tube
plus postage. Larger quantities and trade supplies at much lower
prices from Greygate Chemical Company, Fir Tree Lane, Groby, Leicester,

There have been several good recommendations on the list for sleeving. I
went with George Frechette. It cost $60 + $8 S&H. I had it shipped
and returned within two weeks. This info is from his ad in Hemmings:

BRAKE cylinder sleeving with stainless steel, masters, $60;
clutch, wheel, calipers, $40; plus shipping; guaranteed work

I've been talking with Classic Tube (http://www.classictube.com/) about
the stainless lines. Unless someone sends me some bad news about these
guys, I'm going to pull my brake and clutch lines this weekend and send
them off to them. They sell a set for one of the Tiger Mks, so suspect
there's some on the Tiger list that have worked with them before.

The guesstimated price is $185-$200. Standard steel is only $10-$20
less. They said standard is rated at 3K PSI bust pressure while the
stainless is 6K. I know material is only one factor, but it surprised
me as being opposite of what I expected. Assuming I go through with
this, I'll post the actual price once they have a chance to look a the
lines.

The whitewall trims are quite popular in the UK. I see them
frequently
on cars in Practical Classics magazine (GREAT mag!), and they advertise
them

As to flying off, from what I understand, the trims must be put
in
place before the tire bead is seated, and the tire pinches the trim between
itself and the rim. It would be pretty hard to spin that sucker off, I

After following the on-line discussion of the Pertronix ignition system, I did some research on the web. I contacted them via their site and received a call back after some three weeks, but the rep offered the system to me for $69, i.e. $10 off the list price. Feedback from users, especially daily drivers, was unanimous...a great investment for savings in fuel economy and time. Plus, it is totally contained under the distributor cap.

Someone asked for a good source for Pertronics. I just called ASE Supply
in Oregon at (800) 289-2737. They wanted $51.75 for my 911. That's about
half the price of what they are sold for elsewhere.

Tym,

In response to your inquiry on a harmonic balancer. If your old balancer is
okay except for the rubber you might want to try having it revulcanized. I
had my Mk 1 260 dampner done by Dampner Dudes, 5509 Cedars Rd., Redding, Ca.
96001. tele 530-244-7225. I talked to Matt. I had to pay shipping to them.
Turn around time was about 1 week and they sent it back. It looks great, even
painted and a speedi sleeve on the seal area. Price was $66. Much better than
buying a new balancer at $140 and it wasn't the correct weight! I believe
they can do any balancer so Tigers and Alpines could benefit from them. My 2c
worth.
