Hi fellow members I’m after information about upgrading my brakes on my 1972 alpine fastback they are so hard under pressure and don’t stop very well any information will help many thanks
Not been using it for that reason

Do you need extra effort to stop?

Do they release ok? Or do they almost lock on?

In either case, maybe the servo needs a service.

Hi Mike yes extra pressure to stop it a nightmare that’s why I’m not using her at the moment how do I check the servo

Hi Martyn,

Found this: "You check the brake servo (vacuum servo) by pushing the brake pedal repeatedly and then starting the engine with the brake pedal pushed down. If the brake servo works as it should, the brake pedal should move downward slightly as you start the engine."

From my experience this slight downward movement sounds about right.

The last link also has some further info that might help, although some procedures described involve specialist test equipment.

Obviously check for fluid leaks a such. I'm not sure but I think an improperly adjusted handbrake has an effect as well.
