I'm just preparing 304RYB, a Series III with a 1725 Sceptre engine fitted, for a historic rally. What is the best coolant to use for these cars nowadays? Any recommendations? And does anyone know the part number for the correct engine temperature sender? I've tried a couple, and only get a very slight deflection of the needle above the 90F mark. And while I'm on, has anyone had any success with replacing the fresh air ducting - my car has a Smiths unit that looks as though it needs 3 1/4" ID hose, but in period paper style hose I can only find 80mm?

Bill,

I believe our old engines are best suited to the old blue (eg Bluecol) ethylene glycol based antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor, rather than the pink OAT stuff used in modern cars, which doesn’t suit the materials used in classic engines.

I’ve never used any of the waterless coolants on the market now, but have read enough poor comments about them to decide to avoid them.

Sorry I don’t have any answers to the other parts of your question.

John
