He was in NZ, so maybe he's not back in the UK yet? Looks like you should get sorted anyway with Rapierphil's help . Cheers. G.

Your Revolution counter should show RN.1310/00.
As Glen pointed out to you: for most of the series 3A Rapiers the number of your speedo meter is SN.5324/04 this goes for B3011643 up to B3062491 and indeed from B3062492 it is SN. 5324/14
By the way, Smiths bought British Jaeger Intstruments Company already in 1927 and Jaeger is considered as the luxuary variant of the Smiths instruments.Technically there is not much difference between the speedo's, the difference is in the look of the facia's.

Regards,

Peter

thanks for info Bigt80, I'm surprised it should be a Jaeger speedo, as the Tacho was a Smiths Gauge,(Z 51922/1, positive earth with a chrome centred pointer with white needle ) Maybe the Tacho is wrong ?
that would be a shame as I have just spent quite a lot of time and effort converting it from RVI to RVC so that it works with my electronic ignition.

Hello Royston,
It sounds like you have the correct speedo there: Jaeger were fitted, not Smiths and that serial no. indicates one that would be fitted to most IIIA's with o/d, although they did change them late on in the IIIA production when the suffix was '14' rather than '04'. All were 100mph ones!
I think it might be Smiths were used on IV & V's, but I'm not a Series man I always thought it odd that all instruments on III & IIIA's were Jaeger except the ammeter, which was Lucas, maybe Jaeger did not make one?
I gave away the one I had (speedo) recently as it was no use to me, but there maybe another down at the stores - will be there in a couple of weeks if you don't find anything in the meantime.
Cheers. G.

Hi Royston,

Try Michael Langley, the SROC Spares Officer of the series cars.
I am sure he is able to provide you with a used speedo meter of the right car.

Regards,

Peter

My speedo has broken ! The Hair spring all screwed up and the drag disk is scraping on magnetic drive, Kaput !
Consequently searching for a replacement and realise that my speedo is not the original as it is a Jaeger model 0 - 100 mph sn 5324 / 04 1632
I believe the original should be a Smiths gauge but do not know the model no, or even the max speed shown on the "real" Series 3a speedos.
Can anyone tell me the correct model number please, and advice on if I could use a different speedo, and still get a reasonably accurate readout ? Presumably tyre size, diff ratio all make a difference.
any advice appreciated.
