Is a thin single plate copper gasket correct for a 1725 engine. I have replaced the cylider head gasket twice and in both cases found water in the oil within minutes of starting up. Gasket was supplied by Sunbeam Specialities.
You can use the compound gasket, but I'm not a fan of it personally, however, a lot of NOS Cu/Ali ones have deteriorated badly over the years, so if you're not going to be pushing the engine hard, the compound type is a reasonable alternative; in my opinion that is . Cheers. G.
Thanks Guys, I found that the head bolts had been bottoming in the block, probably as a result of some skimming of the head, bolts that had stretched and the much thinner copper gasket. Added an extra washer to the bolts and re-torqued, car is fine now
