Hi,
I've just found out my servo is faulty.
The servo operates but doesn't release.
When the servo is bypassed the brakes work fine.
The question is, on a 1968 servo, is it better to service or replace?
Speedy Spares can supply the whole item new, but will it look the same as the original? Or shall I get one of two service kits, and if so which one. Is it more likely to be - the 'air' side or the 'wet' side?
Sorry to be so vague; the car is 20 miles away in a garage and I've not had to deal with a brake servo before.

Oh dear more problems  . Well, I don't know if your early servo that was mounted down near the chassis rather than on the bulkhead, are the same? I'm assuming being an early car this is the case? Although the H120 may have started life with a bulkhead servo? However, most remote servos are the same & at a price they are still available as you've found out. I'm not sure if repair kits are very successful in my experience: they are usually half the price of a new servo anyway I would think. It sounds like it is the diaphragm on 'the dry side' of yours that is the problem, but others may have a view. For all of the hassle in rebuilding it and it still possibly not working correctly, I'd go for a new one if not too expensive. Cheers. G. |

On my last Series Rapier I had similar problem. Looking at prices on that there ebay, New servos were actually cheaper than a repair kit! In the end, I took the servo out completely and found the brakes worked fine without one. I suggest you get the old one out and try it for now.

Hi, I recently replaced the servo on my 1970 fastback with a new one from Powertrack, I think it was the best option as going on previous experience a rebuild kit is not always successful,my car has the bulkhead mounted servo so hope this is still of some help,

Stripping it down and replacing all seals and gaskets is fairly straightforward but, I agree that buying a new one is a better idea.
All new ones tend to be black rather than the original cad plate gold colour but otherwise identical.

It seems the best solution then is a new item. I'll fit that when I get the car back.
