Posted - 30 Jun 2018 : 07:33:18 I have riveted to the panel across the front of the car where the ID plate is attached by screws, another plate with stamped on it, SRTR 080138. This number bears no relationship to the ID of the car, (LH190 xxxx) Can anybody tell me what this plate and number represents. Thanks in anticipation

Posted - 30 Jun 2018 : 09:53:38 Hi! That's the Body No. My understanding is that these were put on right at the start of assembly of the body-shell to identify which Coupé they were building - SRTR = Standard Fastback, HRTR = H120 &, I think, SRHC = Alpine. At Ryton these weren't exactly in consecutive order, although when the complete car had its Chassis No. put on when build had been completed they were in numerical order and used to establish build numbers for the week. As far as I know, whilst there are build numbers based on chassis numbers, the body numbers were not recorded anywhere by the factory & we as a club never asked for these when members' gave details of their cars. A pity really as it would have been another way of assessing production numbers. Examples from a couple of my Rapier's. HRTR 080719 (1970 H120) & SRTR 063580 (1969 Std. F'back). Hope this helps. |
