National Rally 2014

This year we are returning to a favourite site – The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre,(BRS) otherwise known as Quainton Road. It was the site of our 2007 Rally, where we joined company with the Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club, just as we are in 2014. It is a four-day affair from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th July. This is what we anticipate will be going on:

Thursday – Free entry to the BRC (Bucks Railway Centre) – normally £6/head/day on Thursday to Saturday. Sunday it is also free entry for us on a special steaming day – normally £11/head including free train rides. Thursday is a day for relaxing, setting up your camp site or just meeting up with old friends. We will light up a barbeque in the evening for members to cook their own food, and visitors will be able to use the marquee for their socialising.

Friday – During the morning we will organise some non-damaging driving tests, and after lunch we have the first of our scenic runs – this one to the prestigious Aston Martin Club’s premises, where with a small fee members can take in the event there at Abingdon. A food van should be on our site for breakfasts, lunches and afternoon meals for the whole weekend, although we will strike up the barbeque again that evening. An ice cream van is also scheduled to appear.

Saturday – The big day! In the late the morning the SAOC will hold their AGM in the marquee but those not attending this can take up the offer of a free coach trip to a large factory outlet centre at nearby Bisecter – of particular interest for the ladies we would suggest. There are only 35 seats on the coach so first come, first served. The concours competition for both clubs takes place during the afternoon, followed by the trophy presentations. Just time then to get ready for our special meal, where we have hired the whole Rewley Road Station building to hold dinner. It’s all under cover and we will be entertained by the fabulous Don Wright Trio. The charge for the meal is £30/head. (£15 for children between 4 and 12) For those not at the meal the barbeque will still be available and there are some very fine restaurants to suit every taste just seven miles away in Aylesbury.

Sunday –The special steaming day at the Railway Centre. Another scenic run during the morning, this time to the fascinating Country Museum in Stockwood Park, Luton. Other attractions that members might prefer are Bletchley Park, the home of the wartime code-breakers, and Waddesdon Manor, the fabulous home of Baron De Rothschild, about 4 miles away. We will not be organising these trips and there is a charge at each of them. Activities end around lunchtime, allowing members to enjoy a comfortable journey home.

Campers can arrive on Wednesday 23rd July but must vacate the site by lunchtime on Monday 28th. There is a single charge of £30 per site for the whole event or £15 for one night. Entrance to the whole rally is £30/head (£10 children under 16) but you can pay a daily charge (Friday and Sunday £10/head, Children £5) or Saturday (£15/head, children £5)
