Posted - 28 Mar 2011 : 21:22:25 Hi Can you please tell me what colour is on the JEL (name and number)? I think it is one of the very finest colour to fasbacks. I will paint my Fastback in that colour. Regards Jan

Thanks Guys, Jason I'm going to throw the cat amongst the pidgeons here but my last Rapier was a "P" reg (I had it for years)and it was one of the later ones where they were all sold with rostyle's and holbay stripes (although why they are called that when holbay never made stripes is beyond me!), it was the same colour as yours and mine but it had gold stripes and they looked great (really). Within a few weeks of getting Jessica I had to get a bottom half respray because the paint was cracking in a few places and all that stopped me from geting a full respray was that Glen didn't have any gold stripes then (he has now). When the time comes to have a full respray (and it will because I'm still having trouble with the paint cracking) thats the way I'm going to go for sure Regards
PS its good to see the forum taking off lately but it all seems to be us fastback fanatics, where are our elders (and betters?) with their lovely series Rapiers - so come on guys and girls get your tuppence worth in!!

Posted - 23 Mar 2011 : 18:11:08 Well, Rootes were always meddling with the colours so don't rule out Forest Green quite yet! |

Posted - 23 Mar 2011 : 15:54:38 Mine was also originally metallic green, with green vinyl seats and door cards. I always thought it was called 'Forest Green' but seeing as how no one has mentioned 'forest green', I'm thinking now that my heads full of BS as usual.
Generally I'm in favour of stripes too, but never liked the 2 dimensional way they seemed to appear on most coupes in Britain in the 70's. Not suggesting 'Starsky & Hutch' styling would necessarily be the way forward but would at least like to see them follow the body lines with perhaps a little tapering.

Posted - 19 Aug 2010 : 12:27:15 really nice photos and topic!
I reckon JEL is in 'Pinewood'
Agree the later brochure shots in light green could well be 'Grasshopper' (with the 'Dunstyle' type wheels here)
Early brochure shots with the white stripe are in Cedar Green 140 (same as BJU). Too late for Sherwood. That had gone by the time Arrow came in I believe. There are a few Sceptres around in this shade, looks really nice.
Addendum, March 2010. PLate found from 68MY with colour code 114 suggests first cars were indeed painted in Sherwood! But until when exactly?? |

Seeing it again does however bother me because I can't decide what to do when I renew my stripes. My options are black as they are now, light green like yours, or off white as in this original brochure picture....
Remember in the early days the only options were black or white stripes. Also that one in the brochure is Sherwood Green, whereas I think yours is Grasshopper? A bit lighter. Club has some remanufactured stripes in white & two shades of green - I think! Car looks great BTW. Should have said that 1st

Posted - 16 May 2010 : 18:04:55 I have that poster hanging in my garage, but what is different with the wheels?
I know there are 2 different styles of rostyles, one with 4 larger cut outs and then the ones I have with the 8 small cut outs.

Posted - 15 May 2010 : 22:57:10 Yes I've seen that photo from the brochure before, I also have a fridge magnet with it on. there is also this poster but its not the same car as the wheels are different
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder etc but I thought the gold stripes looked really good, I do have an old photo but goodness knows where it is now, I have often thought that any fastback looks a little bland without some form of stripe but as I say beauty etc, regarding the paint cracking :- I know Kim used two colours to get the shade he wanted maybe thats the problem but the paint sprayer said it wasn't keyed right so I dont know. As for your remark about audax or series owners - I'm glad I never said that !!! Regards Etc

Posted - 15 May 2010 : 18:19:06 Shame you don't have any photo's because Green & Gold certainly doesn't sound too good?!
I will probably keep the black as this is what the car has worn probably since new but certainly since 1979 when my Dad originally bought the car.
I guess any bodywork and stripe colour combination was available to whoever ordered one new subject the availability but interesting yours is the same as another brochure that I have.....
Interesting also that they do look good without stripes...
And I think that colour is fantastic, maybe one day I'll add a second H120 to my collection!!
I remember seeing Kim with his car many years ago and he was having problems with paint cracking, what kind of paint is on there??
And as for the all the series owners, they're too old to use forums!!

Posted - 14 May 2010 : 17:52:30 Yes, thought so!
I went to see Kim maybe 3 years ago and was a little surprised when he told me he was thinking of selling this one.
I suppose the decision is easier when you have a couple more H120's in the garage including a low mileage one in nice original condition (jealous, me?!)
Anyway, still looking good David.

Ah well, that is miles off before that decision needs to be made, got plenty more things to worry about in the meantime
