Hi
I am going to paint my Fastback engine, which now beginn to be a Holbay engine. Does anyone know if it is the same blue colour on Holbay and standard engine?

The nuts I've seen are twelve sided, you can use a standard bi-hex socket on them or a ring spanner.
Not seen Nyloc ones.
My Chrysler 'Hunter Range' manual has the warning about 3/8 UNF but it just says "Fit new nuts" - nothing about being able to re-use them. I guess this is a change from the earlier times, more worried about the warranty claims than saving a quid on new nuts  .
But like Paul - I've reused the nuts many times.
You can probably get a set from Speedy Spares or http://www.rootesparts.com/.
I doubt it will cost much postage just for 8 nuts!

There is a specific warning in the WSM to make certain you don't use 3/8" 24tpi by mistake which are used in some other Rootes engines and which will fit quite happily. The right nuts are usually Nyloc and what the WSM says is that you can re-use them if you can't screw them on with your fingers. To be honest, I've also always re-used them, even on my rally Alpine and I would rather do that than use a new nut of an unknown grade. If you can screw them on easily by finger tip and they don't appear to be lock-nuts, then I would suspect that someone has changed them for the wrong type sometime in the past and I would try to get hold of some genuine originals.
I'll try to post a photo of the right ones tomorrow later today!

Hi Jan,
In the past I have used the nuts two or three times. I had no problems.
But when I built my Holbay I used new factory nuts, just to be safe.
The workshop manual says "Fit new nuts". If you buy new nuts you need 11/32 inch, 24 threads-per-inch, UNF.

Hi
I have bought paint today, as like as the old color on my engine. I put in some pictures of it when that job is done. (hope for a good result).
Here are 2 pictures from my engine work. I have fixed up my garage to work on my Fastback( I dont tell my wife that was the reason!.)
Do I have to put in new nuts on the connecting rod? I can turn them by my fingers, but it dont seemd to be locknuts.

Hi Jan,
Yes my block is lighter then what I think was the original colour, although I have seen some with even lighter blue. I actually don't mind as I think it will be better with my dark green body colour.
I think the darker one you want is more like this;
Frost do have other blues that are darker, might be worth you speaking to them.

I have seen the picture of your engine(if I am not wrong) and it looked lighter than my own engine. I will mix a color that will be as like as possible my standard engine, and it is quite dark blue.

Yes the block would be the same colour. I bought my paint from frost restoration and it is listed as chrysler blue although I think the original colour was darker.
